2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Change Follows Poor Feedback
The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure informed employees about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a distinct vision.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Hires
The news mirrors a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete message from the president's communication:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to endure.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a clearer identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its ambition to our audience.
The belief in this project grows every day. To advance the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.
His management and background in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in greeting Ben soon. We are all eager to continue observing the evolution of the game in the time to follow.
The President

The appointee presently serves in the position of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in diverse production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at other industry leaders.

"Take on the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and obstacles that evolve every session. Do you safely extract with your collected items? Or aim high, gamble everything, and trust your squad can secure victory? The choice is yours."
Project Ethos does not have an confirmed release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as creation progresses.
