19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former trainer Cervara.
Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.
This marks the player's initial title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after March of the previous year.
Success also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.
The player's defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.
But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a final set.
He defended 4 early-game chances in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
